New Studio Opening This Weekend!

Things are growing here at GemMacrame and from November 2025 I am moving into my own studio!

You'll be able to find me at my new premises at 10 Victoria Street, Felixstowe, Suffolk, IP11 7ER where I will be working and running workshops. I'll also be hiring the space out for other tutors to come in and teach guest workshops.

Feeling creative? Why not join one of my Macrame Workshops. Available at several different locations, with lots of different projects to try. All equipment is provided plus full instructions given by me!

Workshop Space Available!

Are you a tutor looking for space to teach your craft? I am now happy to announce I will be renting my workshop room out for those looking for a venue to teach.

Whether it’s a two hour workshop, or a full day, please get in touch. I have kitchen facilities on hand for the all important teas and coffees as well as bathroom facilities as well. Plus we are right in the town centre so it’s easily accessible.

The workshop room itself is a lovely size and can easily accommodate up to 10 attendees.

If you would like to get some last minute workshops in before Christmas then please get in touch and of course let’s start booking for 2026!

Make a macrame angel with me!

Macrame angels are always popular at this time of year and that’s lucky because I love making them!

I made this especially for one of my bestest friends, she’s been my friend for just over 30 years!! 🫶🏻

I’ve used the gorgeous candy cane cord from @bilibagfactory for the dress and hair and the show stopping golden natural from @hello_bobbiny for the wings. A gorgeous addition for your Christmas decor, or year round!

It’s a Gonk kind of day today!

I haven’t made any Gonks for a while so it’s been nice spending the day making these ready for the Felixstowe Christmas Market in 10 days. I especially love the fuchsia pink ones, it’s fast becoming my favourite colour at the moment!

Now to decide whether to make these Gonks hanging decorations as usual or maybe to make them fun fridge magnets?!

I actually had these in my art exhibition and sold a few but finally I’ve got round to sharing them on here!

This beginner kits includes 70 (!) meters of cord in 7 different colours, 2 wooden rings, 2 keyring fobs and 4 assorted beads. You’ll also have a QR code to scan which takes you straight to my You Tube video which shows you three beginner macrame projects.

A perfect gift for the budding crafter and just in time for Christmas 😁

The cords are all from @bilibagfactory so you know it’s fantastic quality, and it’s all 3mm twisted cord. The colours may vary based on availability but I’m aimed to have a rainbow choice of colours.

I’m actually obsessed with the fuchsia pink colour on the left, not sure I can part with that one so I guess I’ll have to make another one!

It’s been a while, but there is finally a new post up on my blog!!

Believe it or not, but I actually started writing it on holiday back in August, but then something went wrong and I lost everything I had written! I haven’t had the motivation to turn the laptop back on until today and luckily I managed to find everything I had written…phew 😅

We continue with the A to Z of Macrame and today’s blog post takes a look at the letter D. Not going to lie, I found it difficult to think of things for this letter but I found a few things like one of my favourite knots, the double half hitch.

Yesterdays Workshops!

Yesterday I spent the day at @mrsicrafts teaching some absolutely lovely people.

In the morning we made pretty macrame necklaces which can hold beautiful crystals.

Then in the afternoon we make beautiful macrame Christmas tree decorations!

So much fun!

I am going to be planning my first workshops in my new studio this week so if there are any workshops you would like to attend let me know and I’ll plan them in.

Today has been all about throwing myself into Christmas!

This morning I had the pleasure of teaching my 1-1 homeschool student where we made cute little Christmas trees.

Then this afternoon I’ve been in my studio doing a bit of sorting and making these macrame Christmas ornaments! I love making these and today I used the sunning metallic cords from @hello_bobbiny

It’s not ling until the Felixstowe Christmas Market so time to stock up!

Oh my goodness this is actually happening!!!!

Today is my last day at @142artgallery ….

But instead of packing up and taking everything home, I’m actually packing up and moving into my own studio 😱🫨🥳

I can’t quite believe it’s actually happening! This has been my dream goal ever since I fell in love with macrame five years ago.

Not only will this be the ideal space for me to work, but I also have a room for running workshops to!

I am so excited to announce this news, and also announce that the space will be available to rent if you would like to run your own workshops so please get in touch if this is of interest to you. I’ve already spoken to a few people who are interested so I hope to be able to bring you a jam packed schedule of workshops soon.

I’m going to take a couple of weeks to settle into the studio and get myself sorted then we should be open for business.

I will be sharing my journey of moving in etc over in TikTok, so if you want to follow along, please join me over there as well. But don’t worry, I won’t leave you out and I’ll have lots to share here to!

Time for a bit of Christmas on the grid!

I was inspired by my friends who came to visit me at @142artgallery yesterday who suggested I make something a little more Christmassy.

After a bit of inspiration searching on Pinterest I came up with this fluffy Christmas tree design!

I’ve used 5mm braided cord in the colour natural golden from @hello_bobbiny for the structure and a gorgeous 3mm twisted cord in Khaki from @bilibagfactory for the fluffy tree.

Very happy to add this one to my Christmas collection!

Bloom at @142artgallery 🌸🌷🌻🌼

Oh wow this week is going so fast, can’t believe it’s Sunday already!

I took these photos on the first day so some bits are gone now but I am so freaking proud of this display.

Bloom isn’t just about flowers and nature, it’s also about me blooming as an artist and really pushing myself to make bigger and better art. And I am loving it so much.

Thank you so much to the lovely people who have already been in to see me and purchase items!

I’m here until Wednesday at 1pm so plenty of time to still come and say hello.

I started this wall mounted plant hanger yesterday and it’s actually a design I made 2 or 3 years ago.

I’m obsessed with this olive green colour at the moment and I’m so happy with it how it’s turned out!

It’s such a vulnerable position to be in when you share your art and your vision.

You never know if your work is going to resonate with other people, and when it does it can feel a little overwhelming!

I don’t think I’ll ever get use to the feeling of someone saying they love my work or attending my workshops or buying something from me. I have to pinch myself every time!

My favourite things to do during Autumn!

1. Craft with Friends - nothing beats getting together with friends on a dark evening and crafting together. I recently joined some lovely ladies for a clay workshop with the fabulous @muddyhag and created some beautiful pumpkins and ghosts. It was so much fun!

2. Enjoy the autumn colours - I am so inspired by the colours of autumn, which is why I created my autumn leaves wall hangings, to celebrate the colours of autumn!

3. Get ready for the cooler seasons, mind body and soul. I find my mental health takes a dip during these months due to the lack of sunlight so it’s important to have plans in place to look after yourself. Plus your skin and hair all needs to be protected from the colder weather so plan for it now!

Autumn Leaves… who remembers that song from assembly at school?! One of my favs!

I made these beautiful autumnal macrame leaves at @ejartcreative over the weekend as part of our autumn leaves wall hanging workshop.

I’m so pleased with how they’ve turned out!

Ive reinforced the leaves at the back with some iron on interfacing so they hold their shape but still look nice and fluffy at the front.

I just love workshops at @ejartcreative

It’s such a gorgeous creative space and it’s always so warm and welcoming there. It’s very inspiring to be amongst some incredible artists’s work. If you haven’t been a visit then I really recommend it as there’s so many beautiful things to look at.

Today I was here to teach a macrame leaf wall hanging workshop and we all had such a lovely calm and relaxing morning making leaves and designing our own unique wall hangings. Macrame leaves are actually incredibly easy to make so the ladies easily made five during the three hours we were there.

Lots of gorgeous autumnal colours being used and they all looked so beautiful.

Where did September go?!

I swear that was the quickest month ever!!

We started the month in sunny Ibiza then it was straight back into school runs for Ella and workshops and making for me.

It honestly went by in a blur!

September just seemed to vanish in a flash!

I feel like I was willing it to go quicker because then we got to celebrate my wonderful sister’s 40th birthday on the 25th!

But it’s been a productive month with lots of making and preparing for my art exhibit at the end of October. There’s still a lot more I want to make which I’ve had planned for a year but of course I’ve left it until now to do 😂

September has been wonderful and I’m excited for the last few months of the year!

Sometimes I need to take my own advice!

This past week I’ve definitely needed to slow down as my body is telling me I need to rest.

I’ve been reading a lot about having a dopamine menu for the autumn/winter month. A list of things to do when you need that dopamine hit when you’re struggling with the lack of sunlight. Things like enjoying a nice bubble bath, enjoying a delicious spiced latte, watching that feel good movie that always warms your heart.

What would be on your dopamine menu?

Right at the top for me would of course be macrame!

Gorgeous day at a local WI Craft day!

I taught 15 ladies to make their own macrame coasters today and they all did brilliantly.

It’s scary running a workshop where you have to gain the participants trust in you and ensure everyone is happy with what they made. Today I was made to feel so welcome and I was honestly so impressed with the macrame heart coasters they made.

The ‘ber months are here….and so are the bugs!

Both Mr Gilbert and I have been suffering this week with colds and exhaustion and I’m sporting a new pair of gorgeous puffy eyes! What fun 🤣

It’s meant I’ve have to slow down a bit this week and unfortunately cancel a few plans. Yesterday I mainly slept, and today I’m feeling a little better so I’m getting in with a new project which is part of @_twome Bootcamp 3 and will be revealed at my art exhibition at @142artgallery next month. Any guess what it could end up being?!

This little girl was so full of life and imagination and somewhere along the line life took over and made her serious and forget the crafts she loved.

Slowly but surely craft has crept back into her life, from cross stitch to card making to finally finding macrame in 2020.

She finally found her joy and loved to share it with others, but that does sometimes come at a cost. The fear of failure, imposter syndrome, feeling not good enough all takes a toll on mental health, and she may have lows, but when she gets back up she is a force to be reckoned with!

She is me and I will fight for my joy 🫶🏻

Craft Fair Day and today I am over the border in Norfolk!!

Oh hi there 👋🏻

I’ve had some new followers join us so I thought I would do a little introduction post for those of you who don’t know me or what I do!

I’m Gemma, living on the Suffolk coast with my husband and daughter along with two cats and two rabbits!

I am a macrame artist, absolutely obsessed with all things macrame, and I’m actually writing a blog series on my website called The A to Z of Macrame where I’m doing a real deep dive on all things macrame! I absolutely love creating gorgeous products, and I’m constantly looking to challenge myself with bigger things.

I also teach macrame workshops in Suffolk so do check out my website and social media for upcoming events.

Occasionally I attend craft fairs when my mental health allows! And on that subject, my mental health is something I’m constantly working on due to having depress and anxiety, it makes it very tough to be consistent. I’m learning to be kinder to myself and take each day as it comes.

My other hobbies include swimming in the sea, drumming in the woods and getting out there and making beautiful memories.

Are you a ‘ber month lover?!

I certainly am, I think I just love the seasons where things change, I find it fascinating to watch and so beautiful to see the changes.

Inspired by autumnal vibes, I’ve created this macrame leaf to use in a wall hanging. I love how you can use any colour and any design and it looks so pretty. This would also love lovely with some beads added.

I’m back!!!

Oh it’s good to be home. However we did crawl in at 4am this morning so yep this post is scheduled 😂

I’m so excited to get back to work, I’m feeling all inspired and motivated. Plus I have lots coming up over the next couple of months.

It’s been a while, but I’m planning a Facebook Live tomorrow at 10am to have a catch up with you all and chat about upcoming plans, I would love you to join me and say hi if you can. I’ll post the link to my Facebook page in my stories.
